Early Life and Formation
According to the accounts of his life, he was born Stelian Manolache on October 15, 1924, in Mărculeşti, Buzău County, into a faithful working family of twelve children, of whom he was the fourth. He attended primary school locally and went on to the Theological Seminary in Buzău, completing it in 1945, and then took a degree in theology at the University of Bucharest in 1949.
He entered the monastic life at Prislop Monastery in 1949, where he was tonsured a monk and given the name Dometie; the sources name the noted confessor Arsenie Boca as his spiritual father there. He was ordained a priest the same year. The accounts relate that he later served at other monastic houses before his long association with Râmeț began.
