Life
Ephraim of Novy Torg, also called Ephraim the Wonderworker of Torzhok, was an eleventh-century monastic, the founder of the monastery of Saints Boris and Gleb in the town of Novy Torg, now Torzhok. He is commemorated on January 28.
By the accounts he was a native of Hungary who, together with his brothers Saint Moses the Hungarian and Saint George, left his homeland and entered the service of the Russian princes. His brother George was slain together with the holy passion-bearer Boris in the year 1015.
After his brother's martyrdom Ephraim withdrew from the world. He founded at Torzhok a monastery dedicated to the holy passion-bearers Boris and Gleb, together with a hostel for the care of travelers and the poor, and he reposed in the year 1053.
