Imprisonment and Martyrdom
Zachariah was rearrested in 1933. His final conviction came in 1937 in Kazakhstan, at the Karaganda labor camp (Karlag), where, according to the record of his life, he was condemned for speaking with fellow prisoners about God and for singing the Paschal hymn 'Christ is Risen from the Dead.' He was sentenced to execution and died that same year.
He is venerated as a hieromartyr among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia. A foundation for the restoration of village churches was later established in his memory.
