The Holy New Hieromartyr Pachomius of Skanov Monastery
Pachomius of Skanov was a hieromonk of the Holy Trinity Skanov Monastery near Penza, in Russia, who was put to death during the Soviet persecution of the Church in 1937. He is numbered among the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia and is commemorated on September 7.
Born Pyotr Ionov in 1883 in the Penza region, he spent his monastic life in the Skanov community before the closure of the monasteries and the campaigns against clergy under Soviet rule led to his arrest and execution.
Pachomius was associated with the Holy Trinity Skanov Monastery, a community in the Penza region of central Russia, where he lived as a monk and served as a hieromonk — a monk ordained to the priesthood.
His monastic life unfolded in the early twentieth century, a period in which Russian monasteries faced closure and clergy faced increasing pressure under the new Soviet state.
